The Cortland County Child Advocacy Center (CAC) is community organization dedicated to the prevention, education, and investigation of child abuse. The CAC is located in the County Office Building with its own private entrance next to the parking lot.
The Child Advocacy Center has a Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) made up of key individuals from the District Attorney’s office, Law Enforcement, Child Protective Services, Cortland Regional Medical Center, Family Counseling Services, Cortland County Mental Health, and Probation.
The CAC provides a safe, comfortable, child-friendly environment for trained Investigators or Caseworkers to conduct interviews with the child victims. An Advocate is assigned to provide support and referrals to the children and their caregivers. This approach allows for increased communication and coordination among Law Enforcement, Child Protective Services, and treatment providers.
